Grand Final Program Notes

16 Sep 2017 by James King

Wow! This year certainly has flown! It has been another cracking year of NWFL football also! It has been great to see a much more even competition with some weeks almost impossible to tip, much like the AFL which is very exciting for our great league and we hope it can stay like this for years to come!

We are absolutely stoked to have two teams here today representing our fabulous small club! Success is something very foreign to us and we are hoping that can now be a thing of the past as it has been over 30 years since any premiership.

We are extremely proud of our young men in the Under 18’s who have made it here today. The boys have developed in leaps and bounds this year and that is no doubt thanks to coaches, Tim King and Brodie Knight. They have done a fantasic job getting the most out of our boys as well as getting the team to bond extremely well and have moral super high. For the past decade or so our Unders have struggled to win one game each year so it’s so pleasing for the club to have the boys here to have a crack at bursting down the 41 year dam wall since our previous under age flag! All the best boys!

Today also marks 34 years since a Reserves side has tasted premiership success. The boys are coming off a superb performance after last weekends great win over Wynyard and they will be using that confidence today to help get them over the line today, but the boys know four solid quarters of footy will need to be played!

The club certainly wouldn’t be here today without the massive off field/behind the scene going ons. We can’t thank all of our volunteers enough. Our gate keepers, ball boys, canteen and kitchen staff, match day managers, bar staff, our sponsorship team, members, life members, sponsors and of course all of our great supporters. Without these people, we simply wouldn’t exist, so thanks to all!

Congratulations to Dylan Smith on winning the Baldock Medal, Matt Elliot on his second place and our two champions, Jacob Brown and Jack Templeton on their equal third place! As well as our very own Kallum Paul on his league Best and Fairest win in taking home the Billy Fielding medal!

Tomorrow from midday all are invited along to the clubrooms as we will holding our Best and Fairest vote counts for all four teams. The bar will certainly be open and the BBQ will be cooking. Come on down for a well earned end of season beer or two!

Our Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation is on October 14, Bianca, Muzza and Toby are still taking bookings, so please see them to book your seat!

Go Two Blues!
