Round 15 Program Notes

2 Aug 2018 by James King

Today we find ourselves back at West Park with the tough task of the Burnie Dockers. The Dockers are a classy outfit and they have proven that the last two times we have met this year. Players such as Zach Targett, Sam Mitchell, Jake Wray-McCann, James King and Jack Templeton have been in superb form and will be looking forward to the challange. Congratulations to Jared MacDonald and Aiden Laing-Hughes on their Senior debuts last weekend also. Jared joined the club this year following his move to the state from Western Australia playing in the WAFL amateur league. Aiden has been a long time servant of the Reserves side for many years and with his solid form and exceptional defensive skills he was rewarded with a Senior spot! Well done boys!

Nick Rolls and his Reserves team are wanting to bounce back following on from last week’s loss. Low numbers and injuries made it hard as three Under 18’s, Tarkyn Smith, Thomas Bath and Jordy Smith, backed up following their game and then injuries to Jack Eastley, Rhys Johns and Michael Edwards-Gray left the team without a bench.

Last week prior to the Senior game co-captain and 200 game superstar Rodney King advised the group that he will be retiring from out great game effective immediately as injuries has cut his career short. Kingy has been a true champion of our club over his 17 year career as a Two Blue as he began his Senior footy a young 16 year old little master from Penguin High! He has total respect from not just his peers but opposition clubs also as he is a true gentleman of the league. It was with great pride and pleasure he also announced he will pass on his number 10 guernsey to young 16 year old Benny Callaghan. From everyone at the Penguin Football Club, thank you Rodney.

Today we wish our Lady Blues all the best in their 1st Semi Final against Wynyard at Wynyard. The girls have been in superb form, led by Bethany Taylor, Lila Wijesingha-Frohmader, Kirby Randall and Christy Duncan. They will be super keen to earn a spot to the final game of the year and get the win they deserved last year. A win today will send them straight to the Preliminary Final. All the best girls.

See you in Smithton next weekend as we take on the Giants.
